SHORT SYNOPSIS

Ricky Rodrigo is a shambling, humorous private investigator who worries about his estranged family after a major flood has devastated their community in Puerto Rico. He lives a solitary life with his favorite pet bird and works with a loyal, wheelchair-bound sidekick named Blanquita. He’s pulled into a setup by a shady cop named Caruthers that involves helping a wayward teen whose mother Ricky has known. Unfortunately, another cop, Kosta, doesn’t want that to happen. He has Caruthers, the teen, and others killed by a hired gun—with Ricky barely escaping with his life. What’s left in Ricky’s car during the massacre is a school form of Maxine, a small girl living in Ricky’s neighborhood who he’d earlier befriended after finding her bullied by other kids. The corrupt cops, thinking Maxine is a witness, go to her place to eliminate her. They only find her single mom, Simone, who they beat up mercilessly. They go on the hunt to kill Maxine and Ricky alike–and to get their drugs back that were part of the botched setup. Ricky hides the drugs with a local dealer, but Kosta finds them, beats up Ricky, and tells Max and Simone to get out of town with nothing. Feeling like he betrayed Max and let her down, he decides to go after Kosta himself—even if it means losing his life in the process. Thankfully, Simone, Max, and Blanquita come to his aid during the final shootout. Kosta is taken down, and eventually Ricky, Simone, Max, and even his pet bird make it to Puerto Rico to start a new life.
